Life at IU Columbus

In July 2024, IUPUC will become IU Columbus. An extension of IU’s Indianapolis campus, the Columbus campus offers 10 four-year undergraduate degrees and two graduate degrees in a personal, supportive environment where community is core to the college experience.

IU’s Columbus campus makes a big impression with its welcoming atmosphere and strong focus on personal attention and support. The campus sits on art-filled grounds alongside Ivy Tech and Purdue Polytechnic’s Columbus sites. The collaborative space on the AirPark campus is dotted with lush green spaces, modern sculptures, and a walking trail. IU Columbus students live off campus with the choice to rent in a student-only housing facility that is within walking distance.

The Columbus campus is known for its family-like community, with an average class size of 14 students and faculty who are invested in students’ success. Research opportunities, internship programs, and study abroad options are readily available and easy to explore, giving this small campus a global presence. Active student organizations and community service programs help Columbus feel like home to our out-of-region students.

I’ve loved meeting people on campus and places like the Academic Resource Center (ARC). My writing tutor there has been so passionate about his job it makes me feel elated to go there. . . . Seeing him try his best makes me want to try my best.

Active student organizations and events

Whether you love basketball, want to learn sign language, or have a passion for social activism, you’ll find a range of opportunities to get involved and build your community—as well as one-on-one support for starting your own club or organization if you don’t find what you’re looking for. Annual events like the Big Red Blowout, Tent City, and Homecoming bring even more students together to explore activities, meet new friends, and feel the Crimson Pride come to life.

A focus on student success

Pursuing a degree is an exciting but challenging journey. At IU’s Columbus campus, student support and guidance are built into the college experience from day one, including one-on-one faculty and peer mentorships, free tutoring through the Academic Resource Center, and Adaptive Education Services and counseling services for students with physical, mental, or other challenges. Career services help to connect students with internships and jobs in the Columbus area, and strong ties to community businesses and organizations offer more resources for educational support and career development.
